Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul.

Walton in Warsaw

Just arrived in Warsaw to play Walton Cello Concerto for the opening night of the Witold Lutoslawski Forum in the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall. Very happy to be playing Walton again. Last time I was here was 1989 as I passed through by train on my way from Moscow to Berlin having finished my studies in Moscow. It was only a few months before the wall came down.

Yes,you just arrived and I just fell in love….
with Walton and with your play….
The gratest cellist I have ever played with.
Good luck tomorrow! And say good luck for me.
    See you.

  • Piotr says:

Thank you for your playing yesterday. You made a great surprise for Varsovians with Walton Concerto and with your improvisation. We hope to hear you again in Warsaw.

Dziekujemy, zyczymy powodzenia i zapraszamy ponownie!

  • Nina says:

Thank you! It was great! I didn’t know that this Walton Concerto is so beautiful. And your improvisation!!!
I suppose you didn’t notice that not only did your playing move all listeners but you also moved one of those little bells hanging on threats over the audience. They were prepared for performance of Toru Takemitsu’s piece. In one moment when you were playing solo one of this little bells sounded. Wonderful resonans effect!
It wasn’t my auditory hallucinations – a young cellist from the orchestra heard the same, looked up and smiled.
