Concerts with Julian Joseph

Julian and I have just done three of our concerts that were scheduled for last year, but I had to cancel due to my injured shoulder. We put in a lot of work, and had a ball on stage. In the first half we play separately; me playing all of the preludes from Bach’s six solo suites, and after each one Julian improvising a response – something that might be daunting for a lesser musician, but that Julian did with consummate skill and sensitivity. In the second half we played pieces by Julian as well as by John McLaughlin, Jaco Pastorius, Antonio Jobim and Ravel, with a lot of improvising thrown in, and generally enjoying ourselves a lot. We had three full houses in Oxford, Sheffield and Nottingham and they were wonderful audiences, who really entered the spirit of the collaboration. One in London in a couple of weeks, and then into the studio to record a CD that will be released on Signum in September at Kings Place

Hello, I just want to let you know how much my friend and I enjoyed your concert yesterday night at St.James church. It was the first of your concerts I have been able to attend after your recovery and I must say that it’s really fantastic to listen to your music again. You and Julian Joseph are truly an amazing mix! I am looking forward to your concert at the Wigmore Hall in April! : ) Best all.

Omg, you were in Nottingham… I’m now in Nottingham too, and extremely bitter that I missed seeing you live… have just subscribed to the mailing list, as apparently I hadn’t already done so.

I believe one of my (possibly ex-) students has nicked off with my Silver Swan CD, and it’s only now I don’t have it that I realise what an important addition to my collection it is. A bit of a cliche I know – certainly a cliched question – but do you have any plans to record Bach, either unaccompanied or the sonatas?
